Tysdagur, the 3rd of Goa, 901 N.Y.

Upon their arrival in Kirkjuborg, the heroes were interrogated by a forlorn and long-suffering cleric of the Hierarchy with a tonsured head named Norbertus who fulfilled the function of harbormaster and customs official. Estrid Freysteinn led the man to believe that they were gem merchants. The heroes requested a recommendation for an inn, and were given the name of The Hungry Drake Inn. Before heading to the inn, the heroes settles up their accounts with the crew, each member of the party (including Hakon Finehair the Skald paying 45 gold aurar.

Kirkjuborg had a rowdy, festive atmosphere, with drunken, reveling Northmenn everywhere. Kasimir von Schosse wandered off into the crowd with Heinrich (his fledgling skergipur), and Salome Arkonides followed him to keep him out of trouble. They saw street musicians and other performers, and duelists battling over a wager of gold on a large square of white cloth. A limping merchant named Grimmur Trollfoot offered to buy Heinrich for 8000 gold aurar, but Kasimir refused. Salome seemed fascinated by the Northern custom of fighting holmgang duels.

Meanwhile, back at The Hungry Drake Inn, the innkeeper Uri Halfdanur (a jolly fellow with an eyepatch over his right eye socket – he claimed he had lost his eye in the sack of Kirkjuborg) was glad to serve the heroes (five silver pennigar per night for room and board) and told them where to find Thorgill Haraldsson at the inn known as Jormungandur’s Fury.

After dinner, Bergsveinn Farisson went to seek a good smith to have his axe sharpened, while the rest of the heroes went to see Thorgill Haraldsson. They found Jormungandur’s Fury guarded by vikings who seemed somewhat bored on guard duty. The guards informed them that Thorgill was at the jarl’s headquarters near the center of the city, a building formerly an inn called Yggdrasill’s Branch.

So the heroes then headed to Yggdrasill’s Branch. There they found a large gathering of chieftains and thanes attending to Jarl Hrolfur, a huge man (nearly 8 feet tall) with a booming voice, who was contemplating taking hostile action against Bishop Constantinus. Thorgill Haraldsson was in attendance, and explained to the heroes that the church of the Hierarchy were the jarl’s rivals for control of the city, and in fact it was generally believed that the Bishop was planning a coup of some kind.

And so there were some tense negotiations, but in the end, Thorgill Haraldsson agreed to lend his support, along with the Dark Serpent and his long hundred (120) of vikings, to add to the forces the heroes had gathered when it came time to face the King of Storms . . . as long as the heroes would help resolve the problems that Jarl Hrolfur was having with the Bishop.

Odhinsdagur, the 4th of Goa, 901 N.Y.

That night, Estrid Freysteinn had a vivid dream of going to the Basilica to fight the Bishop. In the dream, she hit him with a flamestrike at the height of church services, and Kasimir tried to disintegrate him, but this seemed only to enrage him and the ensuing combat threatened the lives of the innocent people attending the services. She was quite relieved when she awoke from her dream . . .

When the heroes got up, Estrid went to the smith who had sharpened Bergsveinn’s axe, and negotiated to have a suit of dragonhide plate forged for herself. Upon learning that this could take over a year and a half to complete, she was able to enter into negotiations to trade a huge green dragonskin for an already-made suit of white dragonhide plate, and then have it sized to fit her. This was agreed, and so the armor could be completed by about the 12th of Goa.

After making these arrangements, the heroes set out for the Basilica to face the Bishop . . .
