Hel has a hall in a gloomy place called Eljuthnir (“Rain-soaked”).

Hel is the daughter of Loki and the giantess Angurbotha, described by the few who have seen her and returned to tell the tale as a woman of fierce features who is half black and decaying, half pale white yet alive. She rules the Underworld realm that is also known as Hel. She has more Jotunn in her blood than Ase, and she holds herself apart from the other Aesir. She is morbid and grim, and her realm is a gloomy one. She is extremely reluctant to release any who have arrived in her realm.
