The party prepared to advance to the fourth floor of the Central Keep, fearing that they would come face to face with Ohelga Helsdottir, a demon-daughter of the goddess Hel herself!

Estrid Freysteinn used a torch to burn away the magical webs on the stairs to the fourth floor. In doing so, she released bladed traps in the webs, but her armor deflected the majority of the blades. Once at the top of the stairs, Bergsveinn Farisson smashed open the doors, which broken open a skull on the other side, releasing a massive blast of negative energy that engulfed the heroes.

The chamber beyond was heaped with treasure and bones. They saw a suspicious bulge near the center of the treasure pile, and suspected it might be the trigger to a trap, so they moved towards the massive stone doors on the other side of the chamber by traveling along the edges of the room. As they reached the doors, however, the bones heaped around the room arose as 17 draugar! A battle ensued! Neferata dropped two of the draugar quickly. Kasimir von Schosse summoned a wooly rhinoceros! But Caelrath took raw magic and forcibly shaped it into a blast to destroy the draugar, but he accidentally cracked the skull buried at the center of the treasure pile, unleashing another negative energy blast that harmed his friends and restored the undead, including those dropped previously by Neferata! Eventually, however, the heroes did prevail.

Beyond the stone doors was a massive shrine to Ohelga, with a vast spiral staircase in the center of the room and an altar covered in glowing glyphs and runes in front of a statue of the demigoddess! Ohelga was worshipped by two Hel-creatures (hezrou demons). Neferata shadow-jumped into the shadows of the spiral stairs, and the party began a battle with the Hel-creatures, but Caelrath managed to enchant them to befriend him and end hostilities. They were convinced to leave the chamber to seek out robes and candles and such for the party to pay proper reverence to Ohelga, and once they had left, Neferata used a shadowy illusion to make the door disappear. They had learned from the Hel-creatures that a hidden mechanism in the spiral staircase opened the wall behind the altar into Ohelga’s throne room.

As the heroes opened the door into Ohelga’s throne room, they found that she had summoned three more of the Hel-creatures to guard her. The chamber also contained the pool of pure elemental water that is the heart of the keep. Estrid Freysteinn summoned 3 gorillons to help fight the 3 Hel-creatures. Neferata maintained the illusion on the door covering their retreat, but sent her Shadow companion to fight Ohelga – it drained much of her strength, but she killed the Shadow, weakening Neferata. Kas took on dragon form. Most of the heroes fought the Hel-creatures, while various spells were used to keep Ohelga herself from the fight. Eventually, however, the Hel-creatures were overcome, and Athelstan used a prayer to dispel evil to send her back to Helheimur.

And so the heroes triumphed . . . and made an enemy in Helheimur . . .
