Odhinsdagur, the 24th of Skerpla, 901 N.Y.
The party warily approached the Central Keep of the Castle of the King of Storms. There was but a single set of double doors visible. Neferata checked for traps and magic; finding no evidence of any danger, she picked the lock (despite the arcane protections upon the portal) and, while the other heroes dithered over what to do, she kicked open the doors.
The heroes were immediately assailed by a horrid sound, clicking, droning, chitinous – the sound of Hel-Spiders lurking by the door! The sound began to drain what little sense Kasimir von Schosse possessed, until Neferata absorbed and negated the enchantment it was laying upon him.
Within the portal they could see a huge chamber, within which stood a large Hel-Wight of some sort, and a vast creeping swarm of shadowy spidery Hel-Spawn. A fight predictably ensued. Athelstan erected a blade barrier spell blocking the doorway to give the party cover and delay the Hel-creatures from coming out to attack them, though it turned out that the Hel-Spiders could teleport through!
The exact flow of the tides of battle is not so important. Suffice to say that epic things were accomplished on all counts, including mythic firestorms and mythic flamestrikes by Estrid Freysteinn, Caelrath catching and hurling back the Hel-Wight’s own spells at him, and Neferata sneaking up behind the Hel-Wight and nearly destroying him in just six seconds in a flurry of sneak attacks.
In the end, the Hel-Wight saw that its position was hopeless, and attempted to grab the Orb of Storms and flee. But the hamingja of the heroes was great, and they acted more swiftly than the monster could have imagined! Estrid Freysteinn slammed it to the ground with a conjured sirocco when it tried to fly away, and it was then finished off in a coup-de-grace by Neferata. The heroes triumphed, then went for a much-deserved rest in some of Kasimir von Schosse’s conjured tiny huts.
